Illustration Friday - Cocoon

She decided to be brave and leave the protective cocoon she had built around herself.
(acrylic paint and coarse molding paste on 4 x 6 inch Strathmore acrylic paper)

Over the weekend, I prepared a number of surfaces with gesso and various molding pastes for the joy of painting on a textured background. She came together quite nicely and I had fun experimenting with the colors, which started out in pinks and turquoises before shifting toward turquoise, neutrals and red. At the very end, I decided she needed to have "brave" stamped on her just in case she gets fearful again...

If you like her as much as I do, you can find both the original and a print version of her in my Etsy shop (click here), which I updated quite a bit yesterday.

  4. she looks very brave - I like those colors (want to use them in my laundry room)

updating your Etsy Shop - that's something I desperately need to do. the online stuff takes as much time as the art - and not all of it is as fun (tho I sure LOVE blogland!)

do you have much success with Etsy? have you tried the other venues whose names slip my mind now?

  6. Just like your lovely lady, I will be brave and try to break out of my protective cocoon of blubber and fat for I (as you know) have joined Weight Watchers - again - in an attempt to look as pretty as your painting ;-)

p.s. we have a light rain at the moment, Silke, but it's one of those skies that looks like it will be the same all day long - do you remember those blank skies when it snowed in Germany? That's what it reminds me of here, only it's rain!
    Love,
    Doris :-)

  11. I love that you paint on textured surfaces. It seems to me to add depth and I bet in person they are more than they appear on this little screen. Your textured surfaces, though, are art by themselves. The last one was gorgeous.
This brave girl is one of my favorites Silke. She is wonderful!

  21. Hallo Silke
    Wish you a nice time

  23. Yes, we have to leave our cocoons some time or another. However, if you need a place to stay, I have room in the Pig Sty Alley. Rent is cheap.

  27. Hallo Silke
    I`ll come back again
