Surprises...

Yesterday morning, when I got up, Daniel had picked the first flowering gardenia for me. It smelled so good! Our gardenia bushes are on the side of the house and out of the way, so I love having one of the fragrant blooms in the house to enjoy.
Later that day, we decided to stop by a couple of nurseries and came home with two surprises.
Four of these gorgeous yellow rose bushes for our front yard...
(Not only do they look beautiful, but their smell is intoxicating!)
and then two clumping bamboos (they won't spread) for the back yard. We've been talking about getting those for many months and finally decided that we'd try them. Now we don't know why we waited so long.
Winslow decided to help both dig the hole and then water.
Happy dog, happy gardener and happy bamboo!
Some days just hold the best surprises!! Have you had any fun surprises lately?

  4. Experiencing serious garden envy over the gardenias. I have one but have to keep it in the shade so not many flowers. They struggle here. I love bamboo. We have some by the pond. Looks like the perfect day to me. Couldn't ask for more. **kisskiss** Deb

  5. Aw, Winslow is such a handsome dog with his striking baby blues ;-)

I LOVE gardenias too, Silke, ours aren't quite ready yet, but when they bloom, I always have some in my apartment to parfume the air. This sounds so crazy, but when I smell a fresh gardenia, they smell so earthy and the scent reminds me a little of a fresh Champion mushroom and then I get the urge to bite in the pedal (and I have) ha, ha, ha, but hey, some flowers are edible. I had a nice table top book once with all the edible flowers and how to serve them, in salads, or candied violets for cakes - it was very interesting and I miss that book.

Your rose bushes sound marvelous. They look like a nice hairloom variety. I have some red and pink ones I purchased online a few years ago and they smell like honey. I've even made my own potpouri from their pedals...

Speaking of surprises, I had a nice surprise yesterday when I found out one of my blogging friends purchased my crocheted Ewe potholder from my Artfire account...that made me very happy. I don't sell much, but I'm happy every time I do.

    Have a great weekend :-)

  6. I love gardenias. I have a hard time growing them. I do have one plant left and I believe it is doing good. The scent is unbelievable. How nice of your Daniel to pick a flower for you. My hubby does that too. He'll be outside taking the withered roses of the branch and run across another beauty to bring to me. I love that. Have a great weekend.

  7. Beneidenswert!

  13. Beautiful flowers! Those roses don't look like roses. They look more like some sort of tropical flower. I love flowers that smell good! I was enjoying my friend's lilacs today. In my own yard, I can smell a combination of pine, cut grass, and clover. I open my window at night and take a biggggg snifff! Ahhhh! ☺
