I feel inspired!

I almost didn't bring the camera on our walk this morning, but am I glad I did. It was another foggy morning, but the sun was shining through the fog and starting to burn it off.
The light was so beautifully golden.
I couldn't stop taking pictures.
It was so perfect.
Mysterious.
Inspiring!
I tried to catch all the dew drops with the sun shining through them.

The fort still in the fog.
The sun making everything sparkle.
If you click on the photo below to see it bigger, I bet you can see the beautiful stag watching us.
Winslow saw him, too, and was contemplating briefly if he felt like a chase. He didn't. I'm so glad he's not a hunting dog!
Just look at that light and the fog!

Some grazing...
...and more grazing.

Wishing you an equally inspired Sunday!!

Another Foggy Morning

How lucky can I get? So many foggy mornings in a row! And what's best, when it's foggy here it might look cold but it's really very mild. I only took picture of wildlife this morning and we saw quite a bit.
Don't you love that splash of red from the cardinal? He was signing his little heart out for us. Well, probably  not for us, but for his girl who was probably somewhere close by.
A great blue heron in full flight. They are such elegant looking birds. Until they start squawking with a gravely voice that does not go with the sleek look of them.
I think that was a red-winged blackbird on the tip of that tree but I'm not sure. I always marvel that they can sit so still on those tiny branches.
The photo above is looking out into the Savannah River. In the fog, you can't make out where the water ends and the fog begins. I think there were some birds sitting on those pilings.
Winslow, the biggest wildlife of all! :) He was wondering if he should chase the snowy egret that landed right in front of him. He decided he probably wouldn't stand a chance as he hasn't figured out how to fly yet...
And then there were the deer in the mist. There was actually a very majestic stag looking right at us a little earlier, but he was too fast in his getaway for me to get a picture. He was gorgeous! This group of deer didn't mind us walking by at all. They knew there was a nice-sized ditch between us and them.
As we got close to the parking lot, the heavens opened up for about 30 seconds of warm pouring rain. It's amazing how soaked we got in that short of a time. It reminded me of being a kid and going out to play in the warm summer rain. Winslow and I ran back to the car - me laughing and him jumping all around me. A very fun walk indeed!!

I wish you a beautiful day filled with everything that makes you happy and brings you joy!!

In the Fog & some Knitting

First all a hearty welcome to all my new followers! I always forget to do that, but this morning I noticed that my number of followers has surpassed 500. I still remember when I had my first follower who wasn't a friend or family - I was beyond excited! And this now is mind-boggling. Thank you all for continuing to keep up with my life!!
So, this morning when I woke up, it was beautifully sunny at our house. It had rained overnight and it was quite warm.
I quickly packed up Winslow and we headed to our favorite walking trail at Fort Pulaski.
By the time we got there, which is not far from our house at all, we were in dense fog and it stayed that way.
It was so atmospheric and beautiful that I spent much time snapping photos and Winslow kept having to wait for me to catch up.

You can barely make out the palm tree in the photo above and the great blue heron in the photo below.

Can you see the snowy egret flying in the above photo? in the next photo it had landed on the grass.

Winslow found a nice spot to eat some grass while I just looked around and soaked it all in. In the fog, everything was so soft and quiet. For a moment it seemed that time had stopped.  On the way back to the parking lot, a group of ibis greeted us.
I thought the fog would burn off but quite the opposite happened. When we got back home, the clouds had spread inland. It'll be an overcast day.

What do you think about our daffodils coming up already? Every year I am surprised at how early they bloom here. Give it another week especially now that it has warmed up again.
After all this fog I wanted to leave you with some color. I finished these huge woolen socks for myself yesterday. Today they will go into the washing machine to felt into thick and warm slippers. My feet are already looking forward to being toasty warm.
I bought the pattern for them here some years ago and have made many pairs for family and friends since then. It's like knitting socks for a giant, and it goes really fast. I'll show you pictures after they are felted and dry.

Wishing you a warm and colorful day!!

Yesterday

Yesterday was a cold day! Blustery, gray, rainy and promising to get colder and worse. So Winslow and I headed out to Fort Pulaski knowing that icy conditions would make it impossible for today.
We were the only ones out there and it was beautiful
Winslow loved it! The colder the better.
And I kept having to stop to snap a picture or two.
I love this kind of dormant landscape.
The colors of winter in the South where the green never goes away fully.
By the time we got home, I was windblown and wet from the rain... and fully awake!
Later in the day, I received a used copy of this cookbook in the mail - it is excellent! I've made a few recipes from it (tried it out from the library first) and they were all delicious - and healthy.
I also decided I needed some new colorful dishcloths and knitted those two while sitting by the fire. It was beyond cozy!
I started the fire with pinecones from our yard and tried to get a picture of one of them that still kept it's shape, but was all burnt out and just glowing. I couldn't get it into focus (it was too hot close up), but still like how it came out.
Today, we are expecting sleet and even some snow (very unusual for this part of the country!) for most of the day, which means another cozy day is on the menu chez Powers...

Wishing you much warmth and coziness. Stay warm, everyone!!
