Another Giveaway!

I am trying to declutter and organize my studio and I'm unearthing some things I don't use anymore or haven't used at all. So I thought: "Why not have another giveaway?" 

There will be three winners this time.

One person will win the book "Altered Surfaces: Using Acrylic Paints with Gels, Mediums, Grounds & Pastes," which is quite excellent. It focuses on Golden products, but can be inspiring for any brand of acrylics.

When I was a student, I frequently got freebies at the local art supply stores and I am not using them. So one person will win 12 Utrecht fine art colored pencils and another will win 12 beautiful watercolor pencils. Both sets have not been opened or used.

Busy Days...

Just yesterday, Daniel and I were commenting on how our lives seem to be stuck on "fast forward" right now. It's all good stuff, but still everything seems to be moving so fast! We both said how we'd like to hit the "pause" button once in a while and just have everything stand still so we can catch our breath.

Well, this morning was one of those occasions for me. Daniel is traveling on school business this weekend and I was going to sleep in. Ramses though, with his impeccable internal clock, thought I should get up at the usual time.

When I discovered that it was under 70 degrees (21℃) for the first time in months, I grabbed Winslow and we went for a long walk. Most people in our little world here were still sleeping or having breakfast and we seemed to be all alone with the birds and the rising sun. It truly felt like we had hit the "pause" button.

I feel recharged and ready to start my busy and fun day. Most of all, I am looking forward to playing with all my new materials I got at the trade show yesterday. The discounts were unbelievable - at least 40%, but many items were 75% off. Throw in a few freebies and I made out like a bandit.

If you look at the upper left corner of the photo, you can see a teaser corner of the painting I am working on. And after the workshop on Wednesday and reading Patti Brady's book, I am so inspired to try some new things. But more about that later....

Happy Hands!

Yesterday, after playing with paint, papers and lots of water (I'll have something to show you soon!), I looked at my hands and had to laugh at how much I've changed.

When I was in school and learned to write, we had to use fountain pens. Invariably, my hands would become ink stained and I did NOT like it. Not one bit!

Amazing how things can change...

P.S. Today, I am going to a presentation on "Color, Pigments, Mud, Dirt, Micas, Iridescence and Nacreous Shimmer...Expand your Knowledge of Color Mixing" by Mark Golden (as in Golden Acrylics). I am so excited!! Especially painting with mud and dirt sounds very intriguing.

This is all part of the yearly Art Materials Trade Show organized by the Savannah College of Art and Design. If you live in the area, it is definitely worth going to - all the major art materials distributers (click here for details) will be there offering supplies at huge discounts.

Like Two Kids in a Candy Store...

Once a year, the Savannah College of Art and Design, where Daniel teaches, organizes an Art Material Trade Show, open to the public. For three days, quality vendors set up booths and sell their art materials for 50-80% off retail prices. They are available to answer questions, do demos, and even give away freebies.
Daniel and I were in 7th heaven. He talked to many vendors about their products and using them in his classes, to past and present students and to other professors. I got to meet Mark Golden of Golden Acrylics and buy all kinds of supplies at super low prices. What a day!! Can't wait to use it all tomorrow and paint, paint, paint!
