A January Garden in Savannah

Today, my trusty helper (who is laying on my lap assisting my typing at the moment) and I grabbed the camera and went on a stroll through the garden. On the whole, it seems quite dormant, but when I looked closely I saw that actually a lot was happening.

Like these daffodils peeking out.
And there are actually a few brave flowers refusing to fade even with our night freezes.

And most beautiful fruit!
Do you see the buds on our ornamental pear tree?

And an interesting seed pod.
Just look at that color!!
And in our veggie garden, we get to harvest daily from our arugula,
parsley,
and cilantro. I just love the color the leaves took on after the freezes.
And our collard greens are getting bigger every day!
And then ... we spied these perfect little stick maidens.
I might have to bring them into the house to keep. So pretty!
"Nature has undoubtedly mastered the art of winter gardening and even the most experienced gardener can learn from the unrestrained beauty around them."

We agree wholeheartedly!!

Winslow, Beans and Treasury!

Isn't he handsome? Those blue eyes got us when we first saw him as a tiny puppy at the Humane Society three years ago. Daniel took the picture above of Winslow in the back yard a couple of days ago. And here is one of him right after he came to live with us. Look at those ears!
This morning, Daniel picked our first bowl full of lima beans while I was still snoozing... After shelling them (very time consuming!), we ate them for lunch! Wonderful!!
This afternoon, I found out that Jo of peaceofpi had featured my Summer Maiden in an Etsy Treasury. My first! How exciting!! Click here before July 5 if you'd like to take a look at it - I feel honored to be listed among such wonderfully talented artists. Thank you, Jo!!

I hope you are all having wonderful days! I'll head on over to your blogs to find out...

A Work in Progress...

Oh, this is so much fun!! Yesterday I played with a clay board I had found and did some gel medium image transfers. I had gotten the idea from watching Milliande's great video for producing weathered backgrounds. Actually, the transfers were much too good, so I had to distress them a bit and might have to do some more of that. And the colors in the uploaded picture are a bit more muted than the actual colors. It's a bit garish and I like it! Now to figure out what to use this background for...

Daniel and I have been getting ready to plant some seeds for herbs, fruits, and veggies to sprout them indoors. We've got several kinds of heirloom tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, zucchini, basil, parsley, muskmelon, and lima beans.

A few weeks ago, I sprouted some castor beans before putting them outside (they are doing very well) and took some time-lapse photos which I made into this fun little video.

I love spring time with all it's beauty, freshness, and promises! Don't you?!
