Illustration Friday - Satellite

The local satellite branch of the library was her favorite place to get inspired.
(Light and coarse molding pastes and acrylic paint on 11 x 14 inch gallery-wrapped canvas.)

My paintings are changing in a way I had not anticipated and I am over the moon with excitement. When I had finished this woman, I told Daniel I wanted to paint a "real" background this time and asked for suggestions. His first response was "books" and so books it is. I am trying to be humble, but I am incredibly proud of this painting! And already on to the next one...

P.S. Daniel is trying to outdo me and has started a second blog that is dedicated to his many travel sketches. It's called "Wanderlust, or Have Sketchbook, Will Travel: An Urban Sketcher's Blog." It's worth a visit! (Click here!)

  6. Hi Silke...ooh I love her..the colors...the vibe.....and the backdrop of books...gives such another level of presence to her and the whole scene..and to my imagination! I love it! I also love when that happens and a new level moves in..it is really exciting. It is amzaing how each painting or series of paintings guides one to new space and enhances creative expression...amplifies new areas and opens up new gatewways. I truly find painting magical! Wow..wonderful art..you rock!

  11. Silke, you continue to shine ever more brightly. Your talent is reaching new and such exciting heights. I love the play of light and shadow here, and the intensity and depth of the subject in this setting. It reminds of some of the Bloomsbury group of artists...people like Vanesssa Bell and, in particular Dora Carrington. But having said that, it retains its individuality absolutely. Truly, truly awesome, Silke.

  25. Hello Silke, really wonderful glow in this one.
I'm admiring the textures that tie your work together.
The texture really adds another dimension, not just in the obvious 3d dimension, but in the viewers brain - ie adds something else to explore .
It's like we have the image perspective- and we have soemthing else as well.

  26. BEAUTIFUL! The background makes a huge difference. I love both the abstract backgrounds and the "real" ones. I love how the blocks of color and straight lines and order tame the otherwise bold and bright colors. It's like restrained passion, just waiting to explode!

  27. Silke - I love her - she looks professional in a way. Like she is an up and coming legal person or something like that. I think the books are the perfect background for this painting. Daniel had a great idea - but don't tell him that - he will get the big head!
