Illustration Friday - Parade

This week's theme for Illustration Friday is "Parade" and I entered this little painting. I had so much fun with this piece, working with heavy gel medium for the first time. I pasted it on quite thickly, created random patterns, and let it dry. Before painting it, I rubbed some charcoal on it to help me see the patterns more clearly. Looks cool, doesn't it?
I liked the tactile quality of working with this sort of background, the abstract quality of the finished piece, the colors and, of course, the little parade!

  1. I really like this painting, and what a great idea to use the charcoal to help you see the patterns!

  2. Errm, I guess I'm unusual in this respect -- but I really like the charcoal-rubbed version!

  3. Hi Mark -- funny you should say that. I almost left it black and white because I loved the look, but then I also wanted to play with color on that background. Maybe I'll do another one just with the charcoal. Hmmmm... Thanks for stopping by! :) Silke

It looks like music to me. I can see the notes dancing, especially in the charcoal version. But I love the colors you picked for this piece. And yes it looks like you had fun working on this painting:-)
