Well, today I did two things for the first time and I can't believe I ended up with something that I can actually post. I fully expected to have a few practice pieces that would go straight to recycling...
I have had this box of Prismacolor NuPastels for a long time and occasionally I open it up and look at all the pretty colors and then close it again. Pastels intimidate me -- they seem so fleeting and so hard to control. But today, I took a little piece of sample paper (not a good one for pastels, really, but it worked ok) and drew my very first face ever - with pastels! She looks a little serious, but I really like her!
What do you think?
No, way! I, too, have been intimidated by pastels, they have a mind of their own! Then, I got pan pastels (they look like eyeshadow, hee hee) and just this week have been playing, too. Funny. You really did a glorious job on those eyes and she is sooo great! Keep it up! Blessings from Amy

I agree with Raina -- I thought it was a self-portrait! I'm impressed -- nice drawing and in pastels no less. Girl, you are smokin'!
ReplyDeleteYou are off to a great start!! keep it up and keep us posted .Pastels can be made easier if you use pastel paper with unique finishes. Go to Dick Blick and look up velour paper it is soooo wonderful to use !! Your pastels just rub of wonderfully on it! I Like the salmony pink or reddish backgrounds. Oh and then the pastel sanded paper is great too. They are pricy but make all the difference. I love to use them for my illustration work.Oh and then spry them with pastel fix so they do not rub off when done. Dick Blick too....Hope I am not being pushy...
