Color!

Funny how sometimes a certain color seems to dominate my life. Right now, it seems to be red. I walked into my studio yesterday and saw the canvas I had prepped with some torn paper and my red art journal together and just loved the splashes of red!
Even on another painting in progress, there is bright red among the turquoise and green.
I decided a while ago to try to keep an art journal, which I have never done before. In fact, I am not one to journal in any way. My blog is the longest journal of sorts I have kept and I think the reason I love it so much is that you all read and comment. I get bored when it's just me and my thoughts...  We'll see how I do with this. Do you keep an art journal?

Well, Daniel starts teaching again today and life will return to more of a routine. Hopefully that will mean more regular blogging on my part. I have much to share with you! And much to catch up on...

Wishing you a beautiful and creative Wednesday!

  3. I love the red splashes too! Red is one of my favorite colors in recent years too, changing from blue...what could that mean for us? I can't wait to see this piece progress. I will be a regular visitor again too, since my son and his family are on the road this morning back to Fort Hood. **blows kisses** Deb

  4. I love red---always have. It is so vibrant and full of life! You can't ignore it---one touch and a piece of art comes to life!
Well, you know I am trying that sketchbook challenge thing and we'll see where it goes. Yes, I can draw, yes, I can paint, and YES---I have avoided keeping a nice sketchbook since high school.
I'm with you on the blog~~it is an interactive sketchbook of our lives.

  5. Love those colors Silke!! So bright and beautiful with that red! As for journaling, I used to keep one years ago, just writing down my thoughts but was never consistent with it. And I have never done art journaling. I think i would be like you, if it is just me I would be bored! I enjoy the blogging because it is so interactive! :)

  6. You know, I do like to journal, art and otherwise. I look back at them, I don't have many, and it is strange and familiar all at once. I am so glad you are going to have a practice journal and I hope you love the process. I am glad to know your joy friend. Blessings.

  8. I have always had trouble with journaling, maybe I can get it going for a week or two at most and that's the end of it. They are definitely fun to make though! I can barely even get into list writing. I think one of my resolutions in the past was to write more lists!
It's interesting when a new color captivates us. I had an aversion to orange for the longest time and now I've found how to use it in a way that I love!
I agree with you that blogging is the closest sort of journal for me as well.
Happy New Year and I hope that your pages and dreams for the year will be filled and fulfilled.

    xoxo Kim

  11. I keep a dozen journals of all sorts. It's actually rather ridiculous! But I love it.
I'm also loving the red, black, white. Feels good and deep to look at when it's so white and light outside my window.

  12. I do the same thing when I look around in my small, yet cozy living space...it appears that I am drawn to maroon and green and I'm not surprised!

Enjoy your creative journal and the weather ;-)

  14. Red is my favorite color and has been for quite a long time now. It's the color of passion -- excitement -- life! Love how you are using touches of it in your art. Journaliing -- I have done it sporadically. Someone gave me a nice blank notebook for Christmas, and I am trying to decide how to use it. I keep many folders with loose pages -- things I've ripped from magazines, mostly -- so I could use the notebook for a more orderly way to organize my pages. Not quite sure yet.

Happy Wednesday! Will call you tomorrow.

  17. Silke, thanks for visiting my blog :) I don't seem to have the time to blog hop like I used to, so it was great to read your comment and remind myself to come over here to say hello. You will get hooked on Art Journaling! I have never kept a written journal, so I didn't know how I would like Art Journalling....but once I started, that was it. I love to play and create in my journal....and you can always post your pages if you like feedback :) Have fun with it....I know you will!

  18. I was never one to journal, either. Like you my blog is more like a journal. Although I did create one page, which I really enjoyed. I just haven't had a chance to work on another page! I love the deep bold reds you selected for your paintings - can't wait to see them all finished. :) Theresa
