Today, I made another background with lots of texture. After the last painting, I was actually nervous before starting this one. Especially because I don't plan it out ahead of time. What if nothing else comes to me? So, after procrastinating all day yesterday, today I sat down and very quickly selected these colors (love them!!) and layered this background.
And wouldn't you know it, my fears were unfounded. As soon as I felt done with it, I held it at arms length and immediately saw the beautiful woman hiding in the layers. Today I'll gaze at her a little longer so that she can start "becoming" in my mind, and tomorrow I'll start painting her.
Now a quick glimpse at some of our hydrangea flowers as they are entering my favorite phase. When they first open, the flowers are brightly colored - blue, purple and pink. But after a while the colors fade and take on this antique hue, which I just love!
Thank you all for your wonderful comments on my last painting! You make my heart sing!
Hope you are all having a great day!
I am ever a fan of the hydrangea - especially when it gains an antique patina and weeps a little
ReplyDeleteand another canvas - you go girl!
maybe tomorrow we can see who the hidden maiden is
Beautiful! I really like all the texture in your background. And your flowers are stunning. I tried to grow hydrangeas a few years ago, but the deer ate them to the ground, and then the rabbits finished what was left before they ever bloomed. Grrr!

Yours are beautiful colors. Thanks for showing us!

I LOVE your summer maiden! She looks very 1920's or earlier. Her eyes and those red lips. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI had a giant hydrangea for my wedding bouquet. They will always be a favorite.
I love this. One of my catmint plants is in full bloom right now and this is reminding me of these gorgeous spears of purple flowers that I have in my garden. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors you used in your background and the summer lady is just great! You're blog is so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI love hydrangeas, ours are very old and the blooms are very small. Yours look just lovely. I can't wait to see what lovely woman will come out of this new canvas of yours. Thanks for the nice comment on my post. Lorrie
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors for your background--- I see there's a similarity to your hydrangea. Sooo looking forward to seeing your lady.
ReplyDeleteSilke, what a calm, gorgeous background. I can't wait to see her come alive!

Another very promising background, Silke!
ReplyDeleteAnd hurray! The egret arrived yesterday - thank you sooooo much, he is very beautiful!!
Love your hydrangea!
Silke, your thoughtful comments on Every Day Poets about my poem brought tears to my eyes. You understood exactly what I was trying to do--take a very personal situation, and offer it up so others could be moved and think of their own loved ones. You have no idea how much that means to me. I really needed that encouragement today.
ReplyDeleteYou have been such an unexpected blessing to me. Thank you for reaching out.
I love where you're going with this painting already--lovely colors and texture. I'm anxiously awaiting your Etsy shop! :)
Silke,
ReplyDeleteYou are blessed to be able to create so much emotion through your beautiful paintings.

ReplyDeleteIts looking great! And I love Hydrangea too...they are so romantic! We used them as table flowers at our wedding :)
ReplyDeleteHydrangeas are my all time fav flowers!!!
ReplyDeleteLoving these wonderful backgrounds you are creating, am looking forward to seeing the next step.
There is real depth and beauty in this background, Silke... I feel wonder and contentment coming from it, like from a Monet painting. Feels like countryside, forest, or an evening in a vinyard. Love it. Now that I've looked intently into it, I also see a gingerbread man sneaking through a blueberry patch ;)
