A foggy Sunday morning...

This morning, Daniel and I both woke up at 5:30 and went to sit on our new back porch - it was so peaceful in the dark... Our old porch was falling apart and we had this new (and bigger) one built these last few weeks. We did not imagine that we would love it this much. It being bigger gives us a whole new perspective and it has become a favorite place for relaxing, reading, talking and dreaming...
When it was starting to get light, we noticed that it was really foggy, something we don't experience here as often as you might think. I don't know about you, but I love the fog. It is so mystical, so otherworldly, full of secrets...
Daniel suggested we pack up Winslow and go for a walk by the Savannah River. We were the only ones there and it was magical!

And it presented one of those wonderful coincidences to me that I actually don't believe are coincidences at all. All day yesterday, I was thinking about webs and everything and everyone being connected.
And then this morning, nature presented me with these unbelievably delicate and stunning pieces of art!
Mother nature is still the greatest artist in my opinion...

Nature's brooms at work above....
And the fog - it fascinates me! It's so hard to capture on camera, yet it is everywhere...
And then the sun started coming through - pure magic!
I couldn't decide which photos to show you of the sun and her reflection in the water, so you get to see all of them!

A perfect Sunday morning! We were back home by 8 a.m. and ready for our Sunday breakfast tradition:
Delicious waffles! Life is great!!

A happy Sunday to you!!

  1. I love your new back porch Silke!! And it's funny that you said it doesn't get foggy that often in Savannah, because that's one of my biggest memories....of the fog!! :-) Maybe that's because of all the back-roads drives very very early in the morning. Or the EARLY morning excursions to the fishing holes. WHATEVER!! The photos of the fog and the sunrise are just beautiful! Thanks for sharing them. :-)

  2. Waaaaaaahhhhh! This is so beautiful!!! The new porch is gorgeous. I don't blame you for living there. You are so lucky. The sun in these parts of these United States never turns to a waffle or pancake. Geography sometimes is unfair.

  3. OMG! silke! your exuberant and talented art aside, this is my favorite post! your deck is magnificent. the spider web belongs in national geographic. the fog shots are amazing. and the rising sun.

and i haven't said anything about the metaphor of patterns you've seen! just wonderful.

last summer i watched sunrise from beach point in provincetown and honest to god, if i had any question about the nature of miracles or the hand of a higher force, i was assured.

what a great start to your day. my advice on this sunday: keep it up and don't ask why!!! :^)

    love

  9. Silke, your new portch is wonderful-big-and wonderful.
And your photoes so very beautiful-I think fog is dramatic, too- but as you know, we do have lots of fog here in the Denmark-Germany----and Nordic countryes-- sooooo I`m not that happy when it comes sneaking from the sea- and here it is also very nasty cold when it arrived--but I agree -taking fhotoes of webs, are never as beautifull, as when fog have layed all the dewdrops on them.
    Happy sunday, dear Silke.
    Hugs,Dorthe

  10. Happy Sunday! What a fabulous way to start the day! Love your deck -- that looks like an idyllic spot to read, relax, dream. I'm so glad you & D have that special place to hang out. I, too, love fog -- it's so moody. And waffles are one of my latest obsessions for breakfast/brunch. I took your suggestion and used buttermilk in mine the other day -- they were GOOD. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  12. I love your spider web photos!! It's been a long time since I've seen ones like that. When I used to live in the country, I saw them all the time with these wonderful garden spiders in them. Now that we live in town in a condo, I can't remember the last time I saw one. :((

  13. Okay, I'm moving to your house and I'll just camp on the back porch....what an absolutely BEAUTIFUL set of photos!
Other than having to drive in it~~I love fog. Everything is suddenly magic and you feel transported to a magic world. Nothing is the same; the gangly is graceful, the unseen, seen. Beautiful, beautiful....and the quiet that comes with it, like a blanket pressing noise away.
The sun photos are lovely; you were there at just the right time!
    BRAVA!!!

    XXOO~~

Many sunny days out on your back porch this summer, I'm sure of it. And I love that you are experimenting and having so much fun expressing yourself through your paintings!
