Fear No More
6 x 8 inch mixed media painting on canvas
I really like my latest painting! It amazes me how I am returning to my old loves working in textures, layers, collage, image transfers - and how they have a totally different feel from my earlier work.
On this background, I transferred a beautiful photo Daniel and I had taken in Ireland a couple of years ago. I love how it ended up being very abstract, but you can see some of the branches at the top.
"Fear No More" is available as a 5 x 7 inch print in my Etsy Shop.
P.S. The crow is from Milliande's Printable Blog, and the butterfly the lovely Anne shared with me! Thank you!!
Silke it is fantastic ,so understand you being in love with this wonderfull mixed media art piece.
ReplyDeleteLove to you, and hugs,
Dorthe
the eyes, her expression: silke, she will not be pushed around.
ReplyDeletethis is deeply soulful.and the textured background is, certainly for me, now your signature.

Wow.. gorgeous..I love this one Silke!Very my vibe..as I love all blackbirds and butterfly too...a very symbolic-ly rich creation..I feel a "realm" opening right up..ans speaking to me! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteKiki~
Silke....I love this one too! Again, love the lighter colors and the beautiful texture! Her face is so pretty! Love what you did with her eyes!
ReplyDeleteI really like this one Silke, the background is amazing. I had a dream about painting a tree last night, all I remember is that I was upset because I had painted the tree upside down...weird.:)
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that she has such a quiet fortitude about her. I also love the symbolism of the butterfly for what I find I fear most is change.....and yet change is often what eventually sets us free of a burdensome life.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting and I love the colors Silke ;) Hugs Annika
ReplyDeleteSilke!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE! The texture, the colors, the message. No more fear, Silke. You are an artist. I am so sorry for the delay in thanking you for sending your beautiful bookmarks so quickly. I must do a post about all the lovelies I have gotten in the mail. You chose the perfect bookmarks to send me! I knew you would.
ReplyDelete**blows kisses** Deb
I'm all about the colors. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI think I already said it, but just to be sure: Love it!! The colors are so beautiful, and of course I applaud the sentiment!
ReplyDeleteShe's beautiful, Silke. You did an amazing job here. :) I really love the atmospheric feel of the piece. Thanks for the links, too. One of them is a little hard to maneuver but I'll find what I need, I think. :) Theresa
ReplyDeleteOh Silke! I love what you did with the butterfly!
ReplyDeleteI think everything that you have done has lead to this---painting and mixed media; it is a lovely combination and it seems to be *you*.
I have often found that working in a particular medium for a while (short or long) will lead to some specific knowledge stored away for later down the road.
That is what has happened here...it has all come together.
Isn't it exciting??? :D
TSUP!!
XXOO!!
Anne
i love the use of wings to banish fear.
ReplyDeleteI love this sentence "fear no more! And your new woman really gives me that impression. Great work.
ReplyDeleteLove the painting and the beautiful message! Have a wonderful evening;-)
ReplyDeleteI love the message of your beautiful painting. Very nice Silke. Something crossed my mind right now and it was your name, "Silke." It really fits you. Have a great rest of the week and thank you for your kind words on my blog.
ReplyDeleteThe textures and colors of this painting are amazing. I love the phrase also. Very wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThis piece is awesome, Silke!! Just wonderful!! She blows me away!!!
ReplyDeleteSilke, just great texture and elements in this, lots of mystery, and the opposites of crow and butterfly - gives our subconscious something to masticate
ReplyDeleteDo you mind if I ask you? I have just been experimenting with digital transfers on my new colour laser and am seeking a UV stabliser. Elizaabeth seaver put me onto this

have you discovered anything else?
thanks in advance

Hi Andrew, thanks as always for your comment!!
ReplyDeleteI do use the Golden UV protection varnishes because I like all the products that come from Golden - high quality. Plus, I've been to several demos by Mark Golden and am impressed by how they constantly work on their products.
The way I do the transfers, the ink jet images are transferred in a layer of Golden Gel Medium. And with the varnish on top of the paintings, they should last a good long time... (I hope!)
What I don't know is how readily Golden products are available in Australia!
Let me know if you find out anything more. Thanks, Silke
Elisabeth
Oh Silke - she is stunning! I love how you used an old photograph and added that to this fabulous work of art! I say this every time - and I always do mean it - but she is my favorite so far! Oh my gosh~~~
ReplyDeletevicki

Silke, I have a question! I so love this as I said yesterday! What I was wondering was when you do the gel transfer is it on top of the molding paste or vice versa? I am excited to learn all about this mixed media process!! Hope you don't mind my asking!
ReplyDelete:)
Hi Cathy, I thought I'd answer your comment here since others might like to know as well. I first put on a layer of molding paste and keep it really textured and not too smooth (sometimes I even scratch some designs into the paste).
ReplyDeleteAfter that, I give the background a layer of color and then I applied the transfer. That I did by giving the area covered by the transfer an even thick-ish coat of gel medium and affix the ink jet printout (on regular paper) printed side down. Make sure that it's adhered nice and evenly and then let it all dry very well before you wet it with water and rub off the paper layer. Does that make sense?
Keep in mind that the image will transfer as a mirror image. Maybe I should do a tutorial on that sometime... It's so much fun to experiment with!!
E-mail me if this isn't clear!! : ) Silke
hi gorjuss silke!
ReplyDeletei have missed visiting you!

i absolutely love "fear no more"....beautiful colors!!!
xoxoxo

It's beautiful and I love the blue butterfly in it.
ReplyDeleteHey thanks Silke for that info. I think you can get them here, not sure of the cost though. One web site in Oz tells me you need a 10 mill coat ... heh! I think they made a bad typo!
ReplyDeleteThis morning I have been in touch with one of our local manufacturers (Derivan) and they are very keen and will be sending me out some of the results of their Uv testing of their own varnishes. I'm also keen to do some large works so am looking forward to their answer.
Thankyou again for the info!
cheers from sunny Oz
