14 x 18 inch mixed media painting on canvas
Another new favorite of mine! She turned out so differently from what I had originally planned, but I love all her layers - and there are many of them: molding paste, collage papers, acrylic paints, tissue paper, an image transfer of a graveyard photo Daniel took in Ireland, and pieces of a letter written by my favorite great uncle. He was a Franciscan priest and married Daniel and me in Germany 20 years ago this week.
As I get ready to visit my family in Germany later this month, I find myself thinking often about those "times past," and I am sure this painting was much influenced by that.
"Echos from Times Past" is available as a 5 x 7 inch print in my
Etsy Shop.
It's beautiful Silke! Such a look of reflection...I hope you have a lovely time with your family..Where in Germany are you from?...I have spent much time over the years with family in Speyer am Rhine...not far from Heidelberg. I love it there.
ReplyDeleteYour words are exactly what I was trying to say...there is so much depth in the piece, and now knowing what all is included makes it even more special!

ReplyDeleteI am sure you are looking forward to your Germany trip! My brother has been to Germany many times....loves Berlin. A girl he was in a relationship with for 5 years was from Leipzig. He learned to speak german when he started dating her...thats how I knew it was serious! :)
Wow, I think it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, as usual, Silke. Very rich colors and lots of vibrant layers. Plus, it tells a story. :) I know you will have a fabulous trip and have lots of wonderful photos to share and stories to tell. :) Theresa
ReplyDeleteI love the story behind your painting Silke. She is different than what you normally paint. Somehow she radiates. She looks deep in thought as if wanting to say something to us who are looking at her. She is beautiful and I love all the textures. Awesome! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love how you are using different material to create the texture in your paintings, especially using photos that Daniel takes and letting part of them show through. Its great.
ReplyDeleteOooooooh, wann und wo? Wenn Du in der Nähe von Köln bist - vielleicht hast Du Zeit für einen Kaffee?
ReplyDeleteVery rich; very deep; very, very lovely!
ReplyDeleteSilke - ONLY YOU could create this stunning work of art. So imaginative all the uses of the different textures and medias - and so personal in the use of the letter. This is one amazing and beautiful creation. You simply blow me away with your creations!
