Well, let me just say, there was no time for jet lag when I first got there! My visit started out with my cousin's wedding, which was one of the most heartfelt ceremonies I've ever attended.
The weather was beautiful (quite warm, actually), and it was an all around wonderful day, saturated with happiness!
The very next day, my dad and I drove to the Pfalz for a couple of days, a beautiful area where we used to live and still have a few family friends. While I didn't get to see everyone (there never is enough time), I did get to visit with some friends very dear to us!
We thoroughly enjoyed beautiful views,
quaint old villages,
ruins and castles,
and the excellent wine of the region...
It certainly was a very meaningful trip down memory lane, made even more beautiful by the gorgeous summer weather, although I must say that for a couple of days it felt as hot as it does here in Savannah! Soon, though, the temperatures would become more moderate and even fall-like to my very great delight!!
Stay tuned...
I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip to Germany! It looks just beautiful there, and what a lovely couple the bride & groom are! Glad you're back with us though. cheers, Beth

ReplyDeleteAaaaaaaahhhhhh! I love looking at travel photographs. You made me read more about Pfalz. What a beautiful bride and I think they should use a chainsaw, next time, to cut the log. You are sooooo lovely and no surprise about your love of the outdoors here because you came from a very lovely country. Welcome back dearest Silke! I missed you! This is great my favorite bloggers are back again! TSUP!

How wonderful!!! You got to go home! Ahhh... blessings for you! Love, Amy
ReplyDeleteOh How wonderful Silke, I am so glad you had a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteI love the villages.
LOve and hugs.
Silke, I forgot to ask you what the log sawing represents. In the US, the couple usually lights the unity candle. This seems like an opposite kind of thing! ☺
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your wonderful comments! Oh, how they warm my heart every time!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteSome of you asked about the log sawing in front of the church after the wedding. There are many different customs in all the different parts of Germany. Daniel and I had to climb over baskets held by the children of the village and deposit either change or candy. Good thing someone had brought candy...
The log sawing probably symbolizes working together to get something done, both pushing and pulling on the same saw! It was funny, though, since the saw was rather dull and they had to saw for a looooong time... They did get it done, though!!
Wishing you a great day! Love, Silke
These photos are just amazing! Thank you for sharing them. It was interesting to learn of the German wedding custom. I love learning about different traditions. :) We incorporated the Scottish tradition of the groom giving the bride the family tartan to welcome her to the family. I also enjoy seeing the landscapes of different countries. What you've shown here is so lovely. Thank you again! Theresa
ReplyDeleteWell, you know the old adage -- slow sawing, long marriage. What, you never heard that before? Sure. It's just like the saying that a rainy wedding day is good luck. ☺
