Illustration Friday - Germs

As the golden sunlight washed over her, she felt the tiny germs of her new life take root and grow.

I wanted to participate in Illustration Friday this week, but wasn't so thrilled about the theme of germs...until, that is, I remembered that the word germ can have a very different meaning from the one we are so used to hearing now during flu season.

I had fun with this painting, using lots of patterns again instead of the molding paste. I used a good bit of gold, which looks beautiful in the original painting, but doesn't quite show up in the scan.

Your comments on my last post were just wonderful! You all enrich my life in so many ways for which I am extremely grateful! Here's to an amazing week for all of us!!

  12. Beautiful painting Silke...You are a naturally talented artist and I really like the new textures you are using. I think that is why I love your work because you create such a positive energy in your paintings. This lady looks very Pre-Raphaelite with the gold background and her long locks.;)
Your lovely painting has arrived safely and thank you for wrapping it so well.;)
I have sent you an email!
    Hugs, Jo.

  17. Oh YUM!!! What are you eating NOW, you temptress, you! What's that? An everything bagel with cream cheese??? Ohh, I love those. Bahahahahaha, why must you tease me so with your good eats?!

Ah, Silke. I love this Germ lady. She is blissful and optimistic. Empowered. She speaks to me, because I feel the same way. The movers came last week, and they kept asking me what I do for a living. I kept stammering, because my gut instinct was to say, "Nothing. I'm just a housewife." But sometimes, I managed to squeak out, "I'm an artist." It still doesn't sound right. There's no conviction behind those words. But maybe with time, it will become a truth.

Missed your posts, Silke. I enjoyed catching up with you. And congratulations on the Deborah Award. You are more than deserving!

    xxoo
