A Full Heart

Today, I've been working on a birthday present for my aunt, Inge, one of the most special people in my life. Her birthday was yesterday and I am still working on her piece. I don't want to rush it even though it's going to be late - I want it to be as perfect as possible. I can't wait to show you all - it's going to be beautiful, just like she is!

While I was waiting for paint to dry, I played with the little collage above featuring a photo of my family (and a couple of friends) when I was about 7 and my sister a few months old. My mom is to the left of my sister's stroller and my dad on the right, next to me. It was such a happy time for us!

So much else happened today that filled my heart, but I am going to leave that for another post. I don't want to overwhelm you all! At one point, I came downstairs and Daniel had picked these flowers for me from our front yard - aren't they pretty?

And one more picture of a spring peeper coming out of hiding when we had a storm a couple of days ago. These little guys have quite the voice!
I hope you all are having a wonderful evening! I'll meet you back here tomorrow...

  1. What a lovely collage picture! It's funny because in the picture your sister has the same expression as your mom and you have the same as your father....so sweet! I can't wait to see what you are making for your aunt and of your news! ; ) xx, julie

  2. Oh yes, those wee little tree frogs do indeed have quite the voice. We once were staying at one of our favourite inns in Beaufort, SC and one of these guys "sang" outside our window all night. Needless to say, sleep was a bit illusive!!

I love your bouquet. Garden flowers are the best!

  7. That collage is special, what a treat to have such memories. I think to have flowers PICKED for you is one of the loveliest things, bless.

I agree with not rushing a gift, it's not about the date, but the love and effort you put into it.

  8. I love what you do and I love your attitude to life. Not rushing things is something I've leaned since I left Germany but getting things absolutely right is still a reminder of the old life. How is it with you?

  9. This photo is precious! Look at how similar your expression is to Caro's, although hers is a bit more of a frown. How cute are you guys! And the adults are so good-looking.

I also love the bit of vintage postcard in the background. You are inspiring me! I will have to find my vintage postcards and see how I can work them into a collage. Neat stuff!

What a beautiful family picture. I like the way the butterflies are pointing to and centering everyone in the picture.

I can appreciate your husband's gestures of love. Love is also in the details. And I like that you honor this gesture by sharing it with us. Thanks!

  14. Hi Silke... I thought I'd posted a comment here on Tuesday, but was having a problem with my smart phone connection that day, so maybe that was it...
I love the vintage family photo and how you decorated it in collage. Everyone seems so at ease and happy, a truly special photo it is!
-- I've never seen one of those peepers in person... it's beautiful, though it looks scared to death of being found out.

    Great post, Silke! Thank you...
    David
