What to do with winter squash?

Make a delicious spread with roasted squash, a whole head of roasted garlic and goat cheese. Delicious!!
You can find the recipe here.
I loved the simple beauty of the garlic husk after I took out all the roasted cloves. Pretty, isn't it?

Wishing you a delectable day...

Backyard entertainment

Daniel and I are easily entertained and the other night we both had to laugh out loud at this squirrel that absconded with one of Winslow's milk bones.

Winslow was not amused...

Wishing you a day filled with delicious treats!

iPhone doodles

I have discovered a very fun app for the iPhone called "My Sketch Paper for iPhone."
And I've been playing and sketching.
And somehow I am hoping that somehow I will be able to incorporate some of this looseness into my paintings.
I'm drawing only with my fingers and am not using a stylus.
 Fun, fun, fun!
Wishing you a doodle of a day!!

Not so faded

Zinnias make me happy. Very happy.
And every year Daniel plants zinnia seeds just because of that.
And always enough so I can bring some of them inside to enjoy.
Wishing you a bright and shiny day!

Faded Gorgeousness

I know I've probably said it several times already, but here I go again! I just LOVE hydrangeas when they start to fade.
I think we all hope to be like those flowers - only getting more and more beautiful as we age...

Wishing you a day filled with great beauty, faded or not!

Timeless design

Daniel and I received this beautiful Alessi espresso maker and two of those pretty little cups for our wedding! As you found out yesterday, that was 23 years ago!
I still use them frequently and to me they always look modern. Definitely a timeless design.

Wishing you a day so beautiful that time stands still!

Happy Anniversary!

23 years ago today, Daniel and I got married in Germany in the company of our family and close friends! Many even came from the US to spend this special day with us.
As we came out of the little church in Angelmodde Dorf, the village kids had put up barriers and we had to buy our safe passage with candy and change. It was a total surprise for us!
I love this photo of Daniel and I with my grandma, who has since passed away.
Our wedding day was the hottest day since 1947 and if you look closely at the photo you can tell how very warm I was. We didn't let it dampen our sprits though in the least...
And here we are 23 years later. In some ways we have changed a good bit - our hair is more silver, we are both sporting a good number of laugh lines in our faces and I am not as super skinny as I was back then.

But in all the essential ways we didn't only stay the same, but I'd say that we are aging quite well. And our love only grows with every year that passes! We are very lucky indeed!

Sending you much love and joy on this very special day!!

New Painting

Finally I can show you this painting. I was taking it to Europe as a surprise and couldn't post it before.
But I love it and now want to show you as well. I painted this for my dad's wife, Ingrid, who loves animals of all kind and has a wonderful little dog.
So I decided to add a dog to the painting.
And I fell in love it it - what a cutie!
Fun, fun, fun! I just love my new painting style. It makes me happy!
And looking at this, I'd say I'm definitely developing a style of my very own. Two of these are now living in Germany and the other two at our house.
And that's where they might stay!

Wishing you a colorful day!!

Blueberry Pie!

The other day I baked my very first blueberry pie. I've made many pies before, but never with fresh blueberries. I wasn't sure how it would turn out and a little nervous because I was making it for a dinner party, but it was both beautiful and delicious!
I used the recipe I found here. The Pate Brise she uses for the crust is the pie crust recipe I always use. It's foolproof! :)

Wishing you a most delicious day today!!

A beautiful fruit

We have a big pomegranate bush in our garden. It was a stick when we planted it five years ago and is now huge!
Last year it bloomed like crazy, but we got no fruit. This year, we probably have about 20 pomegranates ripening. Most will probably be ripe while we are in Europe and our friends will get to eat them.
But I wanted to pick at least one and enjoy it.
Perfect!

Wishing you a very juicy day!!
