Citrus Love...

Well, is your new year starting out as busy as mine? Part of that is because when a new year starts, I always feel like cleaning and organizing and getting rid of clutter. I think that'll be on ongoing project this year, but I am off to a good start!
Every year around the holidays, I start craving citrus fruit. I think it's my body's way of balancing the increased sugar and butter intake... Last year, on our way back from Tampa in December, we stopped at along the road and bought several bags of oranges, grapefruit and tangerines. The juice of those has been heavenly!!
In our own garden, the kumquats are getting ripe and are oh soooo deliciously sweet! I have to admit that I never liked that little fruit until we started growing our own.
And staying with the citrus theme, a few days ago, I made another batch of preserved lemons. I made them once before (click here), and they'll be ready in a month for one of my all-time favorite recipes (click here).
I hope your 2011 is off to a great start!! Tonight, I hope to have some time to come visit your blogs. I've missed checking in the last few days...

  3. Silke I've been running around like a mad woman but I can't tell you what has been accomplished! (okay, some art, some sewing, some knitting....)
The first of the year always seems to be that way.
And I crave fresh fruit after the holidays; I do think it helps clean out the sugar and butter from all the goodies!
    So, I must need A LOT! ;D

  14. Oh how I love fresh citrus - I love to use kumquats in my homemade orange marmelade. My parents had a winter home in Florida and we used to get fresh fruit from their yard all the time. How I miss that~~

Beautiful photos - I am checking out the lemon recipe!
