Citrus Love...

Well, is your new year starting out as busy as mine? Part of that is because when a new year starts, I always feel like cleaning and organizing and getting rid of clutter. I think that'll be on ongoing project this year, but I am off to a good start!
Every year around the holidays, I start craving citrus fruit. I think it's my body's way of balancing the increased sugar and butter intake... Last year, on our way back from Tampa in December, we stopped at along the road and bought several bags of oranges, grapefruit and tangerines. The juice of those has been heavenly!!
In our own garden, the kumquats are getting ripe and are oh soooo deliciously sweet! I have to admit that I never liked that little fruit until we started growing our own.
And staying with the citrus theme, a few days ago, I made another batch of preserved lemons. I made them once before (click here), and they'll be ready in a month for one of my all-time favorite recipes (click here).
I hope your 2011 is off to a great start!! Tonight, I hope to have some time to come visit your blogs. I've missed checking in the last few days...

  1. Love these sunny citrus pictures! I need to eat more fruit. Do dried apricots count? I've had plenty of those this holiday season. Don't forget to check out my 10 things I know for sure on my blog. ☺

  2. I crave citrus around this time too! Love the pictures.

    Love, C

  3. Silke I've been running around like a mad woman but I can't tell you what has been accomplished! (okay, some art, some sewing, some knitting....)
The first of the year always seems to be that way.
And I crave fresh fruit after the holidays; I do think it helps clean out the sugar and butter from all the goodies!
    So, I must need A LOT! ;D

  4. Hi Silke. I have a lot of lemons so I am doing that recipe for preserved lemons this year. I wish I knew how to preserve oranges. Have a great week.

  5. Oh ich liebe Zitrusfrüchte,
wie du weißt gibt es leckere Orangen und Mandarinen in hiesigen Breiten nur jetzt im Winter, also genieße ich meinen Orangensaft nun um so mehr.

  6. Happy New Year!! Oh I am salivating looking at those oranges but especially at those lemons. I used to eat them all the time....that's right ...lemons....yum!!

  7. oh my my silke! these are mouth watering. makes me feel healthy and pure just looking at them.

you are a lucky duck to have that kumquat tree in your own back yard!

  8. Happy New Year Silke! I, too have this urge to clean out drawers and cupboards! My studio is looking spic and span now and I feel more organised! What a gorgeously juicy photo that first one is - delicious!

    Herzliche Grüsse

  12. How bright and cheery to see on a dreary winter's day (at least it is here). Thanks for reminding me of the preserved lemons! That sounds really great - maybe I'll give it a try. Theresa

  14. Oh how I love fresh citrus - I love to use kumquats in my homemade orange marmelade. My parents had a winter home in Florida and we used to get fresh fruit from their yard all the time. How I miss that~~
