Elephant...

I cannot believe that Sunday is almost over! Where has the weekend gone?! We have been so busy with birthday celebrations (thank you for all your good wishes to the birthday boy!), dinner preparations, pie baking, pie eating, and general errands to run that I have sorely neglected my computer and you all...
I was going to take pictures while I was cooking and baking to share recipes with you all, but guess what!? I got so absorbed in the process that I completely forgot. I was going to take pictures of the pretty table, of the birthday boy... You get the idea! Plus, the weather has been so gorgeous that I find myself more outside and less in front of the computer.
But today, I had to come up with a quick little gift for a one-year-old toddler and I felt like making something. So, with a few scraps of cotton yarn and a crochet needle, I came up with this very happy and colorful elephant! Fun, don't you think?

This week, I hope that I'll be blogging a good bit more and also checking in with all of you. I miss you when I haven't visited your blogs in a few days... I hope you are all well and wish you a wonderful beginning of the new week!!

Fun with Yarn!

Recently, a friend encouraged me to just play with the yarn I have, to leave instructions behind and go with the flow - somehow that seems to be a theme in my life these days...
So, I took two gorgeous yarns (one from Italy and one from Germany) and played with big needles, yarn overs and even twisted stitches.
The result is an unusual, one-of-a-kind, artsy, beautiful and long scarf.
You can find this scarf in my Etsy shop - click here!

Fun, fun, fun!! Both the knitting and the result... I think I am getting the hang of just going where the muse leads me...

Wishing you a most creative day!!

Signs of Change

I always realize how much I like change, when the seasons change. I can't tell you if I like spring most or fall, but I love when everything in nature changes so drastically.
Here in the south, the seasons are less obvious, but on my walk with Winslow this morning, fall colors were showing up everywhere.
I can't help but take pictures every time, so be prepared for more photos of leaves, mushrooms and anything else that reminds me that the heat is over for now...
Thank you all so much for your great comments the last few days! They were so helpful, and as I embark on a less scheduled life, I will let you know how it goes. It definitely allows for plenty of surprises throughout the day!

Yesterday, for example, I went upstairs to get something I needed, caught a glimpse of the painting I am working on and - half an hour later - I finally made it back downstairs with whatever it was I needed and my hands covered in paint.
Do you see the red heart in the lower left corner? That's for you all! Wishing you a beautiful Tuesday!!

An AHA Moment!

I was going to post earlier today, but I was enjoying your comments on my previous post so much that I waited. It's fascinating how we are all so different and arrange our time in such varied ways.
While I was reading your comments as they came in and pondering my question(s), I suddenly had one of those AHA moments! You'll laugh (I did!), but I actually said: "Aha!" out loud...
Let me try to explain. I realized that my frustration didn't stem from having too much to do or not getting important things done. I am actually quite organized and usually do all my household chores in the morning and usually before 10 a.m. Stuff gets done with plenty of time to spare.
You see, that part of my life I am familiar with - schedules, lists, getting things done, checked off. But I've recently joined the lucky ranks of the creatives, the artists -- and I've finally realized that those same tools don't apply to creative time.
When I am in that creative space, whether I am painting or knitting or creating something else, time becomes fluid and the lists I make just laugh at me! And I think that the more I acknowledge that I am an artist, the less will I be able to schedule my life.
So, here's what I decided. I will trust that all the important things will continue to get done (they have so far), that my lists and schedules will serve me well while I deal with general household "stuff."
And for the rest of the time, I will let the muse guide me to what I feel most inspired to do! This is new territory and the rules don't apply the way they used to. I'm ready to be an artist and play!!
Speaking of play, Winslow had a play date at the house Saturday night and had the most fun! After four hours of non-stop chasing and wrestling, finally both he and Zachary were ready for a peaceful moment.
May we all remember to play with such abandon...
