Tall Ships in Savannah

This last weekend, the Tall Ships Challenge started in Savannah (for more info, click here). All those beautiful sailboats, some very old, some newer, were docked along Savannah's river front and a sight to behold!
Daniel took lots of photos for us and you and most of them speak for themselves.

I love the shots with the Talmadge Bridge in the background.

The US Coast Guard ship was stunning!

The building in the photo above was built in the 1700s from ballast stones that empty ships would bring carry and unload in Savannah to take on their cargo. It now houses a restaurant.

As we were walking back to the car, this container ship was leaving the harbor - such a great juxtaposition of old and new.
I leave you with a few photos Daniel took on our way back to the car.  The arches below and cobble stone streets are also built from ballast stones.

Everything is so green at the moment and simply beautiful. And our capitol building looked especially bright against the clear blue sky.
With that I wish you a fantastic new week!

I cannot get enough...

The garden keeps holding me captive! The hydrangeas are getting more color and the jasmine smells heavenly!

The tomato plants are getting their first green fruit!
The blueberries are growing, but the bushes are still so small. Last year we got enough blueberries to enjoy over granola. This year it'll not be much more.
The fig tree on the other hand, has an overwhelming number of figs getting nice and big. I am collecting recipes of what to do with them all (aside from just eating a good number of them). Any suggestions?

This oleander was a gift four years ago from my aunt. It was a small shrub, probably knee-high.
It is now at least 10 feet (3 meters) high and simply gorgeous! That is the climate here in Georgia - everything that likes heat grows in leaps and bounds. Our fig tree was a tiny little stick we planted six years ago - it is now a good-sized tree!

The same with our pomegranate bush (I'll have to get some pictures of it), which has grown from a little stick four years ago to a HUGE bush with a trunk like a tree. When it is blooming or has fruit, people regularly ring our doorbell to ask what it is. It looks striking!
And last a little fun I had with the birds - ok, it was just entertaining for me - feeding them worms...
from this plate!
Wishing you much fun and sunshine and beauty on this Saturday in May!!

More Distractions

If it's not the birds, it's the garden that is holding me captive these days and away from the computer.
Right now, it is as its most beautiful and the weather is perfect for being outside.

And sometimes I have to bring the garden inside to enjoy as well, especially from the plants that bloom on the side of the house, which we don't see much.

The gardenias are beautiful and so fragrant.
I put two blossoms in a bowl filled with water together with this little glass swan a good friend brought us from Switzerland. I love it!
There has been one other good distraction, which I'll share with you in an upcoming post.

I hope you are enjoying this first week of May!

Bluebird of Happiness

Here's one of several delightful reasons I've been so absent from my blog, your blogs and the computer in general.
 The babies have hatched.
And they must be fed - a lot!
And I must watch - a lot!
Wishing you a very happy day!!
