Something New...

Well, I have not been able to get back into my art. A little, but not really. And then, today I talked with my sister and she told me to paint something and that was the kick in the behind I needed.
There was something I wanted to try this summer - creating texture with Plaster of Paris. I had bought some the other day and I finally got it out and prepped two canvases with it.
.It was mixed up quickly and then applied. I pressed some bubble wrap and shelf liner into it while still wet and just love the resulting texture!

It was a little bit like mixing and applying icing to a cake - except I am quite sure the taste would be different.
And because this was a very colorless post, I thought I'd finish with a couple of flower photos from the yard...

...and of the sunset we had two nights ago after some good storms.
The sky was on fire! So beautiful!
Wishing you a terrific Tuesday!!

    1. Thank you, Beth! It feels good to make some art again - even if it's only in the beginning stages so far... No idea what to paint! I'm hoping it'll come to me... Hugs, Silke

  3. Gorgeous sky!! How is plaster of paris different from molding or modeling paste that golden makes (besides being cheaper I would guess)

    1. Janet, just from first touch of the plaster of paris, I think it's much more chalky than modeling paste. The modeling paste of Golden I have used, I like a lot, but it always has a plastic feel to it when dry. This is more like thick Gesso. I'll let you know how it is to paint on. And the price is right, too! :) Hugs, Silke

  4. Hi Silke!! I am happy to hear you got some textured canvases started! I hate that feeling when I am not sure where to begin again and of course fear I will never create again! lol Have you ever tried golden's "light" molding paste? It is more chalky than the golden heavier one which I never liked because of the plastic feel of it.

These images of the sunset are AMAZING!!!! Wow!! Thanks for sharing!!

    1. I know that feeling, Cathy! I was starting to feel a little concerned about not painting. And with these, I still don't know what I'm going to paint...

And, yes, I have tried ALL Golden molding pastes and like them all. I just really love the plaster feel of this plaster of paris. It's definitely different!

      Hugs, Silke
