Painting in Progress

And ....... I'm back!! This morning, I suddenly couldn't think of anything more fun to do than painting ... a woman ... in "my" style. I was wondering if I still could after learning so much drawing technique.
The whole time I was painting I was thinking of the classes I had taken. One thing I learned for sure is that most anyone can learn technique if they apply themselves. To me, it's fun to learn how to put things on paper so they look "real" and it's useful to know how to draw certain things. However, in my opinion that's not where the soul of a piece of art comes from. I'm not sure that is something you can learn.
And so I was wondering? Could I still paint how I feel? Could I still paint one of "my" women I would feel connected to. The answer is "yes" and it makes me very happy!

Tomorrow I should be able to show you the finished piece!

  2. Love this so far Silke. I can really relate to what you said about not being able to learn to paint from your soul. My latest piece I felt as though was painted without thought about technique as much as I tried to follow what I felt. And I wish I painted that way all the time. It is where the emotion comes out. Looking forward to seeing the finished piece. xo

  3. I love this! When I have taken classes, I often lose 'me' in the process. So much so, that I become quite confused!

This makes me very happy to read!

  8. Hello~~remember ME??? (LOL!)

You are absolutely right; the soul of art does not come from exact duplication (cameras do a good job of that) but from the artist themselves.
What I see looks wonderful~~anxious for the total unveil!
I think learning technical drawing has it's uses and can be applied when necessary. But then look at me and the mixed media---from someone who used to do very precise portraits.
The soul is the thing to listen to.....

    XXOO~~

  10. I'm so happy you're able to paint like 'you' after all that tuition! Do you find your own drawing easier now? I found life drawing helped enormously even though I like to draw in a simple style when it comes to my own drawings.xx

  13. She's lovely. I take some classes as well and question the same things but I think you have answered the question for me, yes you can. Yes I can. It doesn't change who you are inside and what passion comes out from your art work. Thanks for sharing.
    Hugs and blessings.

  15. Yay! It is beautiful! Learning more, learning different, doesn't change the heart. You will always show the innocence and mystery of your paintings. I am glad of that. Blessings, friend.
