Illustration Friday - Renewal

She had experienced a renewal of her soul and suddenly the whole world looked different!

Here another little 4 x 6 sketch that I really like! At some point while painting the background and her hair, I had a paint brush in my right and another brush in my left hand and worked very fast and very intuitively. And I love the result - much more painterly than my other pieces.

I hadn't entered anything recently in the Illustration Friday weekly challenge, so I decided that she'd make a good entry! Head on over and take a look at how others have interpreted the theme of renewal.

Tomorrow I have something exciting to show you - it came in the mail yesterday... Until then, enjoy your day, you wonderful people!!

  5. This is lovely. I've never done the paintbrush in each hand--it sure worked out well here.

  6. happy new year to you too, silke.

she has a look of serenity about her. i covered her face so i could just see her eyes, and then i did that with just her mouth. i have a feeling she is becoming wise and she knows it.....

    is she you, silke? ♥

  10. She looks beautiful and pensive Silke.
I like her outlook for New Years!

By the way, your critters are beautiful too. Ramses looks like a cat I had for 17 years.
And I'm pretty sure Winslow is smiling :)

  12. Silke, I love your work and you have come a long way, .......
but you also have a long way to go before you reach Daniel's level.
But then, he's been at it for a lot longer than you have.

No wonder you are the proud wife.

  13. "renewal" is such a wonderful word and a wonderful theme...I sense a "renewal" in your creative spirit - especially if you were painting with both hands at once...brava!!!

  14. Renewal what a good word for the new year but I suppose that is why they picked it. Two hands!! That must be very liberating, and how nice to be able to give up the control.

  15. A "sketch"? Silke I wish I had your energy. My brain is full of ideas but my hands are too lazy to pick up the brush. I need to do it soon before the image gets fuzzy.

  16. She's really lost in reverie! Beautiful! (A friend from college used to paint with two hands-- it was fascinating to watch-- one brush was for paint and the other was to keep her wash edges wet!)

  22. Silke, HAHAHAH! I am so glad you found them because I drew them for ............ YOU!!! HAHAHAHAH!!! I did the hot dogs just before I posted. Yes, the tabloids alright, but remember that they were the first to break John Edward's infidelity while he went around the country posing as a trustworthy candidate because the liberal mainstream media would not touch him. So there are truths in them although I really think it was not Elvis they sighted at the mall last Christmas.

  23. Oh Silke, I forgot to tell you. Sometimes when I oil paint and want to let loose, I paint the faces of my portraits with my left hand. You will notice which ones they are because they have no angles, very fluid and raw.
