Adding Color - Painting Background continued

Well, I started adding the first layer of color, which I did in one afternoon. I looked at the colors of the paper collage and decided to add a very light wash of pink and blue acrylic paint and see what that looked like.
Not bad, but...... I decided to spray the painting with water from a spray bottle and blot off some of the color, simply because I like to work that way. That's when I ended up with this. Pretty good, but...
...it still needed something, and I decided to add a little gold in spots. I know many shy away from metallics, but I like them in moderation. And this needed a little sparkle.
That looked and felt good and finished to me (for now) and created some really pretty areas.

Now, what to do next? I don't have any idea. So, in the meantime, I go and stare at it and turn it upside down and sideways and even touch it - the texture is great! I'm not sure if should apply more color, this time more opaquely, or if I sketch in my subject. I don't know how you work, but when I'm not sure, I wait until I have a thought as to what's next. I hope it comes soon...

  1. Silke dear, it is very beautifull, and very exiting, I too likes a little gold now and then, and uses leaf gold on every kind of surface, looks so real.....

  2. Hahahha! Good morning dearest Silke. I love this picture into your creative process. Just like every artist out there who go out with an idea in mind to create something but sometimes the painting or the picture decides to do what it wants making the artist a mere instrument into its conception. Now I am looking forward to what will come out of this! Aah! I am busy today but I am working from home!

  4. I really like what you're doing with the background! And a little gold, used in moderation, is a good thing. I like that, too.
    :0)
Can't wait to see what you do next. I know it will be something fabulous, though.

I hope you have a lovely day!

  7. I love how this is shaping up. I love how you stop and think, turn it, look at it sideways and upside down to decide. The addition of the gold is lovely. I think the metallic works because of the tissue you added and removed...goes towards an "aged" feel. And then you sit back and wait for your muse to tell you what's next. Lovely!!

  9. This is so captivating, Silke, and I love your creative process. When I'm not sure about the next step (or if there needs to be another step), I always wait a while and return with fresh eyes. It generally works out. x

  12. I often work in a similar way, turning the piece around until I "see" what is in there, waiting to be made visible.
    It is looking lovely already!

  13. We had a good bit of snow during the night and the morning - traffic was ... not nice this morning. Will probably continue to snow tonight. Temps are going up and down and after the snow, it will get colder again... I wish it was March...

  14. I love it just as it is NOW, so I can't wait till you do some more magic on it!
I find, as you said, in moderation, metallics can really provide a certain visual kick. Just a glimmer, in the right place, like internal light in the painting package.
    Very very nice..... :)

  19. Silke, you look fabulous! I love your new avatar! Now and then we get some spectacular skies but mostly associated with storms and hurricanes. During the winter though, I notice unique cloud formations.
