Odds and Ends and an Award!

(click on any of my pictures to enlarge them)

Well, all your good advice yesterday helped immensely and I ended up having a productive, yet relaxed day and feel back on track today!! Thanks to all of you!!!

So, today, I have some odds and ends for you. First up are my new greeting and business cards, which I won in two fantastic giveaways from UPrinting over at Melissa's blog Januarywish. I won 250 custom greeting cards and 500 business cards. The quality is fantastic and the whole process was easy and painless! Make sure you check out Melissa's blog - it's not only beautiful, but she's got the best giveaways. Daniel designed my business cards for me - aren't they fun?!?
Then, I saw this wonderful New England cookbook from 1956 in my friend Beth's Etsy shop, Maine Coast Vintage, and I'm so glad I bought it before someone else found it.
It has some great recipes, but just look at those illustrations!
I just love them!
I thought I'd better give you some proof that I'm actually working on another painting. Here a small piece of it. You'll get to see the whole painting (there's much more to it!) when it's finally done...
And last, but certainly not least, I want to thank the talented Lisa Holtzman for passing on this award to me. She is not only a warm and kind friend, but a talented artist and the most brilliant calligrapher! Make sure you check out her blog. You'll be amazed!!
Thank you, Lisa!

Later today, I hope to visit some of your lovely blogs. You are always an inspiration to me as I try to live the creative life...

  1. Hello, dear Silke,

    Your business cards are gorgeous!

Aren't old cookbooks fun?! The one you found looks terrific. I love the illustrations!

I've been thinking about your last post some more.
    :0)
It made me realize that the one thing I love the most about having so many interests is that I have never, ever been bored. I don't think I know what that feels like.
    :0)
I hope you have a wonderful day, my friend!

    Hugs and love,

  4. Hallo liebe Silke, Ich bin's...die Doris von dem CrochetinginGeorgia blog. Ha, stell Dir vor, wir sind beide Deutsch...und das Kochbuch ist klasse.

You won't believe it, I have that very same cookbook, same cover, same illustrations, only it's about, hmmmmm...I'd guess 35 years old. I got it way back when from the Italian-Swiss Cologny when they were stil in business at the South Coast Plaza mall in Costa Mesa, California. It's all changed now and that cook book is falling apart. I have it somehwere in a plastic zip lock bag, but it has the most wonderful German recipes. I make my Apfelstrudel from that book and my Stollen. You can tell the pages I love the best, they are the most spotted and used looking. As soon as I find it, I will photograph it and send it to you - you won't believe it. It's my most favorite German cookbook because the recipes are authentic German, only the measurements and directions, etc. are all in English...I believe it even has a Rezept fuer Fastnachtscherben und Hexen Schneee und eine wunderbare Hasselnusstorte....

wait till you see it. I will visit you often. I love your critters too ;-) I have a lot to do, so I will come back and visit leter.

    Auf Wiedersehen,
    Doris Sturm

  5. You WON the cards!?!? Even more fantastic! I have your notecard that came with my scarf sitting right on my desk and your business card is waiting with two of Manon's that won't fit on my bulliten board, and are awaiting another board to decorate my working area with the art of my talented friends. I told Manon I was going to retile my pool with her old cards! Love the vintage cookbook. **blows kisses** Deb

  9. Silke, I found my book that looks very similar to yours and it's also from 1956, only mine's so tattered from using it so much. I have German and Viennese cuisine in mine and I just love it.

  16. Oh my gosh I got that same cookbook for a wedding gift along with ones from other sections of the country. This was in 1957. I think they might have came along with a set of Revere Ware pots and pans. I'll have to clean out my cabinets to see if I still have them.

  17. OOOOOOooohhh! Your cards! They are strikingly beautiful! Wowie, I love the painting you chose for it. And I can't wait to see more of the lady you're working on now. She seems to be amused by something. :)

Congratulations on the award, dear Silke! And the Etsy find, too. A vintage illustrated cookbook. Never mind the recipes, I'd flip for the pictures alone.
