After the Storm

Apparently I slept through an incredibly loud storm last night. Daniel said the house shook with the thunder and Winslow had to hide in the furthest corner of our clothes closet. Daniel was up for about three hours ... and I heard nothing!! Must have been in deep, deep sleep. We even had a power outage for a few hours, but now everything is back to normal.
I can't tell you how much our garden needed this rain!!
So, this morning I took the camera and snapped a few photos.
Kumquat flowers - they smell so good!
Not only are the plants happy, but these storms have broken our record of 56 days with temperatures above 90℉ (32℃). Add to that unbelievable humidity and our heat index has been well over 100 degrees every day. Truly miserable!!
Kumquats already growing. Do you see the bug in the photo?
Today, it will still be humid, but only get up into the low eighties. What a relief!!
As you can see our pomegranates are getting ripe and Daniel has been picking and shelling them for us. They are so sweet, very different from the ones you buy in the store. And don't they look like little jewels?
And... drum roll please ... these are our very first blueberries from the bushes we put in last year. Not enough for a pie, but enough to enjoy over cereal in the morning!
Wishing you a wonderful Friday!!

  4. Yummmmmmm! Pomegranates! They ARE little jewels. Actually 90 degrees sounds pretty good to me...we are expecting a high of 103 and by Monday 109. I think your deep sleep is a product of a content soul. It's like watching a flower bloom in slow motion...a site to behold! Happy Friday, Oh Beautiful One. **blows kisses** Deb

Those blueberries look delicious and you have me wondering about the taste of the pomegranates - as I have only eaten the store bought kind...

  9. silke, i did not know your temperatures were so high for so long. that rain must have been the heavens opening up finally.

after a rain or a watering, i can see the gratitude in my garden, i can actually see the plants and flowers saying thank you, and sometimes OH THNK GOD! i am sure that is the case in your yard and garden today.

enjoy. i'm envious that you have your own fruit!

    love

  11. Ha Silke, I take it in turns with Mr Mousie to sleep through storms and bad weather, it's almost like one of us knows one of us has to keep guard and be watchful!

I love pomegranates - very jealous!! Send me some over please!

  13. Well - wehave had some incredible storms here also - lost a HUGE tree in our front yard - missed our house by a "whisker"! Big mess to clean up too!

Love your fresh fruits - I am so envious of those pomegranates - I would love to be able to pick one right off a tree in our yard! Love the blueberries too - I try to eat them everyday with my protein shake.

The rainy day flower photos are fabulous!
